Those six words are my way of summing up PSO (Pre-Service Orientation) this past week. After spending the last four days in Atlanta, I left feeling so energized and ready to take on the year. It felt so refreshing to be surrounded by like-minded people with the same goal in mind; ending poverty. Any doubts I had about this being the right decision were definitely subsided after training! Here are some random recaps I jotted down during training :)
Day One:
- "Out of your comfort zone and into your courage zone"
Day Two:
- I need to work on active listening...
- We had a discussion about what each of us view as poverty. We went around the room one by one explaining how we have experienced it personally. It was so moving to hear stories of those directly and indirectly affected, choosing to take a stand.
- What impacted me the most was someone said that the cause of poverty was "everyone". We are all affected by it in some way; living in it, witnessing it, ignoring it, benefiting from it, etc.
Day Three:
- Sometimes I forget how "direct" my communication skills are, so it was nice to be made aware of this again. It's so important to not only have good communication skills, but also to be aware of your "style" versus others.
Day Four:
- Officially sworn in! Woot woot!
I can't wait to start work on Monday! This is absolutely going to be one of the best years of my life.
