The first week is over! And it was amazing!
We had training for the first few days to learn the ropes of how AmeriCorps functions within Habitat, as part of the family. We basically just covered the logistics: time sheets, schedule, etc. By the end of the week we were all sent out to our more designated areas to work with our supervisors.
Rebecca, my supervisor, is so wonderful and sweet! I am so excited to work with her this year. We went over the basics of what I would be doing as far as phone calls, emails, meetings, etc... Let's just say I'll usually be pretty busy! Thursday I got a taste for what it's like.
We had a second home dedication for a family that just bought a house. An interior designer came in and decked out the home for them. Two hours before the opening, the furniture showed up not put together! So it was all hands on deck making sure everything got done in time for the family. It was crazy, but fun! Everyone works so well together and has so much passion that they didn't think twice to drop everything and help out.
Finally on Friday I got to head over to the ReStore and work with one of our partner families! I love hearing their stories and experiences with Habitat. It really motivates me to do all that I can to make sure their experience goes smoothly.
Thank goodness for the 3-day weekend! Going from doing essentially nothing all summer to easing into a full-time job is rough. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have it down pat.
To keep myself sane, I will be joining a bowling league with some of the other Habitat peeps and also initiated "Walk & Wing" nights with Vicky! On the side I will be on the PhilaU First Five Alumni Council and helping out Tara with a project as the designer. So I have PLENTY to keep me busy and can't wait to get in the gr
