Hi, again! So obviously I've actually been a bit busy! So from where I left off...
August 31st:
I played games at night after doing some homework with Helle and Christian. We played Ticket to Ride Europe and Carcassonne. I'm addicted to these games, haha. Then I finally went to bed.
September 1st:
The morning went by pretty slowly. Two guys came by to fix the doors in the apartment and that was about the extent of the excitement, haha. But for my visual journal class we went over perspectives and got to go out and draw some sequntial perspectives in the city. I suck so bad at it. Like, really bad. So thanks to all those PhilaU design professors who don't want to waste "their" studio time to actually teach me something useful. You've made me look like an ass.
For Urban Design Theories (which is probably the best class I've ever taken in my life) we visited Gehl architects, where both of my professors work. It's amazing the work they do. It's so nice to see that there are firms that actually care about PEOPLE and understand that we need to make changes in the way we design these days. AKA, they're not pompous assholes. YAY! So once again, maybe PhilaU needs to re-vamp who they hire... Because it's not actually like they say, and not everyone wants to be a mini-Gehry. Because in reality he sucks.
After a long day I went home and had dinner with Helle and Jacob (Christian was running with his company). I watched the INDEX awards which were once again, amazing. The concept of design here is completely different than in the U.S.. It's making me not ever want to go back. It's just stupid how people live and work in the U.S., honestly. So I watched that and admired all the wonderful things people are designing to better our lives and benefit humans and the world. Fantastic idea, really. Helle watched it with me and we had some cake and hot chocolate.
I was soooo tiered from wandering around the city. But when I went to go to bed, I found a suprise under my pillow! Helle had bought me Danish choclate, but apparently Rabbie had gotten it for me.
For those who do not know who Rabbie is, let me introduce you... He's my rabbit that has a rattle in it, who is slowly loosing his fluff. He's 21 years old, been with me from the get-go. I take him everywhere because its a major comfort issue. I cannot go anywhere for a long period of time without it. Haha it sounds so pathetic reading it now, but I have serious attachment issues to it!!!
So that was a very nice ending to my day =)
September 2nd:
Today is the day I was dubbed worst daughter ever! I totally didn't realize I missed my dad's birthday! I actually didn't even realize it was September, hahaha. I'm so out of it.
Helle, Christian and Jacob went to Lalandia this morning so I'm home alone for the weekend. Helle bought me some food for the weekend and let the neighbors know in case something happens, haha. They speak english so no freak incidents (unlike the guys who came to fix the door). I really hate to say that I only speak english. I don't want to only speak english, but right now I don't know enough Danish to talk to people =/ except Jacob haha.
So I had design today and we continued working on our bike designs. I am actually learning that I really like graphic design! Next week we're going to see a poster collection that is super secret. Like, it's kept underground in special cases and the public are not allowed to see it. We got an inside hook up =) I'm excited for that. But I also have to design a poster for Copenhagen fashion week and I'm not sure I'm excited about that yet. I don't really dig fashion, haha. I like sweaters... That's the extent of it!
I just finished eating a frozen dinner I made for myself and the rest of the chocolate cake. I'm hopefully going out to do something with Joanne and Mike tonight, so yay! My first night out =)
So I guess a few lessons...
Design can be good, it can change the world, and it can be centered around people.
It's good to pack something to eat during design.
